Unfortunately Ben Cardin, who opposes gay marriage, is the Democratic Party's establishment candidate. His weakness on this issues is reflective of the larger problem of the Democratic leadership being too weak-willed to fight for progressive values; like equality. With Van Sustren has dropping out of the race, and Mfume running a substanceless vanity campaign Maryland's GLBT community is left with only one option for a real progressive who will fight for their rights in the Senate, and that's Allan Lichtman. Lichtman won't be muzzled by party leaders who are afraid of the Republican's "culture war" rhetoric.
