Every Sunday, Michele Newcombe and her partner, LaShea Saunders, travel more than 100 miles from Bridgeton in South Jersey to attend church services in New Brunswick
The couple say the nearly two-hour drive is worth it because of Pastor Kevin Taylor, who started the Unity Fellowship Church of New Brunswick five years ago as a house of worship where gays and lesbians would be welcomed.
Newcombe, 51 and Saunders, 37, joined the New Brunswick church because of Taylor, a charismatic man and a skilled orator who, they say, can talk about the Bible in "plain English.""I was away from the church a long time," Newcombe said. "Being raised a Catholic, my choice of sexuality was condemned. It really turned me off from religion, period."
